Joe's New Blog

Nothing special, this is just my third effort at writing a blog about my life and what goes on in it: Hobbies, cooking, work, maybe the occasional book or DVD review, and so forth. Nothing really noteworthy, but this is sort of a little subset of my world...

Daily Journal: Day 34 of 365

My idea of writing in the morning every day ran into the reality of working on a Saturday today. I had to be to work at eight this morning, which was about two hours before usual. I didn’t really want to get up at all, since it was about 10 degrees outside. It was nice and snuggly under the covers, and it would have been really nice to just roll over and go back to sleep. Of course, I did volunteer to work today, so I can’t really say too terribly much about it. And I can always use the extra money from the overtime…

Last night, I was in a pretty piss-poor mood when I came home. When I got to work in the afternoon, one of the porters was out using the van I usually use. The other driver had the other car and was out on a run to Flower Mound, so I couldn’t use that. I waited for about half an hour before I called the phone in the van. Supposedly, the porter had been out getting diesel for a vehicle back in the shop, but when he realized that I was waiting to pick someone up, he was up at the drive in a couple of minutes. Who the hell knows what he was doing? Probably just standing around wasting time in the shop. Overall, it put me about 45 minutes behind where I should have been, and by the end of the evening, I had to reschedule one of the pickups for this morning. I really wish they wouldn’t take my van minutes before I’m supposed to get to work, and I especially wish they’d friggin’ tell the porters to get the hell back to the shop as soon as possible when they do. And I’m not even going to get started on the lovely smell of diesel in the van all evening…

Regardless of the reason, I wasn’t exactly cheerful when I got home. I had planned on doing some work on the new website, but instead I wound up watching a little TV and then playing Wii for longer than I really should have. We finally got in a second one of the Wii Motion Plus things a couple of days ago, so it was fun being able to both play at the same time. I still shouldn’t have stayed up until 1:30, knowing I had to be up early.

Today at work was pretty uneventful. By the time I got there, there were already cars lined up in the service bay and out into the driveway. So I guess next weekend, I should really try to get to work a bit before eight. I helped park some of those cars before heading out to pick up the person I missed yesterday. After that, it was mostly just driving for me. I parked a few cars and pulled a few up, but in general it wasn’t really much different a day than my usual evenings.

I got home and did a little bit of stuff around the house. Emptied the dishwasher, vacuumed, sorted out a few things from my closet upstairs. I also played an 18-hole game of golf on the Wii. I think I finally have the motion plus thing figured out, because I shot a -1 for the round. After that, I started watching the NFL playoffs, and that’s most of what I’ve been doing since. In the words of the Moody Blues, another day’s useless energy spent…
