Joe

So, who am I? My name's Joe, and I do all kinds of weird things, some of which I might write about on my blog, or I might just create new pages dedicated to them. Among other things, I'm a musician, a writer and a somewhat poor amateur photographer. I also do cross stitch, I have an interest in history, I'm just starting to get into N-scale model railroading, I dabble a little bit in woodwork, I enjoy baking, and I used to be a database programmer for a living. I'm sure there's a bunch of other crap that I do which I am forgetting at the moment, but I'll think of them at some point and put them up here.

I lived in southern Oregon for a fairly large part of my life, from the time I was 2 until just about 2 years ago, when I was 40. Currently, I'm living in Denton, Texas, just a little north of Dallas. When I got down here, I found a job with the county's mental health agency doing database and intranet programming, but that didn't work out very well.  I just didn't manage to learn the web programming parts of things, and they let me go.  So now I'm working at the same auto dealership as my girlfriend, doing filing in the morning and driving their courtesy shuttle in the evening.  It's not much of job, but it pays the bills while I'm trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

I was married for almost five years to a lovely lady named Carol, but in the end I think I wound up being a little to self-involved and too inflexible to make it work out, and we parted ways in the early part of 2006. I met another nice lady via the internet about a year later, and we hit it off pretty well. Well enough, in fact, that she is a major part of the reason why I moved here to Texas. I was planning to move somewhere away from southern Oregon anyway, as I was getting rather into a large rut there, and the girlfriend provided me with a rather handy reason to move to north Texas.

So I packed Kala the cat and everything else up in a Budget rental truck and headed halfway across the country. That was in April of 2008. Since then, I've unfortunately not accomplished nearly as much as I would have liked. I'd really like to find a band to play in, but I don't particularly care to play in a cover band, and I don't really want to play in a band that wants to go out touring, because I'm just getting a bit old for that kind of stuff. So, if anyone would like to get together, play some original music, maybe do some recording, but doesn't think they're going to be the next major hit machine, drop me a line and let's see what clicks.

I used to play in a band, many years ago, called West of Arizona. We produced a couple of CDs, but we probably gave away more copies than we sold, and I think I have a couple hundred copies still left sitting around in the storage unit. Since that group broke up, I've been doing not a whole hell of a lot musical, although I do occasionally get the bug and do a little bit of composition. A lot of my compositions are either 80s-sounding synth-pop or Baroque-sounding instrumental pieces. One of these days, I'll post a few of my old compositions up to the website. I do have a MySpace page for some of my little musical blurbs, but it's been a hellaciously long time since I've updated it.
